Do I need TAC approval first?
Attendant care is not on the TAC's first-90-day no-approval list. It usually starts with a doctor or treating-team recommendation, and a Review of Capabilities assessment may be sent to the TAC to work out the level of support before it is funded.
What this means if you are the client
If your claim is accepted and attendant care has been recommended and approved, the TAC pays a registered provider directly at these rates. You should not be billed the difference unless the provider charges above the TAC rate, which is worth confirming before care starts.
What this means if you bill the TAC
Registered attendant care providers bill the TAC at the rate that matches when the service was delivered: weekday daytime through to the public holiday rate. The number of hours funded follows what the client's doctor or treating team has recommended and what a Review of Capabilities assessment supports, so it varies client to client.
